mn-crop-weather State Minnesota Weekly Crop-Weather Week Ending Date Week Ending September 6, 2009 Issue MN-CW-36-09 Agricultural Summary Small grain producers had their most active harvest week this season, according to the USDA, NASS, Minnesota Field Office. As of Sunday, spring wheat producers had harvested 61 percent of the crop, a 33 point increase over last week. Barley advanced 31 points to 70 percent harvested, while oats was 90 percent harvested compared to 73 percent a week ago. Temperatures were mild as daytime highs warmed from the low to mid 70s early in the week to the upper 70s and low 80s by week's end. Little to no precipitation fell across the state. Topsoil moisture supplies were 73 percent adequate to surplus, down from 81 percent last week. Seventy-seven percent of corn was at or beyond the dough stage, 14 points behind last year and 16 points behind average. Corn at or beyond the dent stage advanced 23 points during the week to 30 percent, 26 points behind last year and 39 points behind average. Thirty-one percent of soybeans were turning yellow, 6 points behind last year, but 21 points behind the average. Statewide, 72 percent of corn and 68 percent of soybeans were rated in good to excellent condition, both down 1 point from a week ago. Sugarbeet harvest was underway at 3 percent complete with 74 percent of the crop in good to excellent condition. Potatoes were 23 percent harvested by week's end. Sweet corn harvest advanced to 61 percent complete. Other crops being harvested included dry beans at 5 percent and canola at 21 percent complete.
