mn-crop-weather State Minnesota Weekly Crop-Weather Week Ending Date Week Ending October 10, 2010 Issue MN-CW-40-10 Agricultural Summary Above normal temperatures, clear skies, and minimal precipitation has helped fields dry and allowed producers to make significant soybean and sugarbeet harvest progress, according to the USDA, NASS, Minnesota Field Office. As of October 10, the soybean harvest jumped 53 percentage points from last week to 82 percent, compared to 25 percent last year and 60 percent for the five-year average. The average moisture of harvested soybeans was 11 percent. Sugarbeets were 59 percent harvested, compared to 44 percent last year and 50 percent average. The near-ideal weather conditions allowed 6.8 days to be rated suitable for fieldwork, the highest number this year. The statewide average temperature was 8.3 degrees above normal for the week. Precipitation amounts were light with most reporting stations recording no precipitation. Topsoil moisture supplies were rated 1 percent short, 83 percent adequate, and 16 percent surplus, compared to 53 percent adequate and 47 percent surplus the previous week. Ninety-nine percent of corn was in the mature stage, compared to 66 percent last year and 88 percent average. Corn was 17 percent harvested, compared to 2 percent last year and 13 percent average. Statewide average corn moisture was 18 percent. Corn was rated in 53 percent good and 34 percent excellent condition, a slight increase from last week. The dry bean harvest was virtually complete at 96 percent, compared to 80 percent last year and 90 percent average. Potatoes were 92 percent harvested, compared to 87 percent last year and 85 percent average. Sunflowers were 48 percent harvested, compared to 13 percent last year and 16 percent average. Sugarbeets were rated in 54 percent good and 38 percent excellent condition, while sunflowers were rated in 17 percent fair and 62 percent good condition.
