mn-crop-weather State Minnesota Weekly Crop-Weather Week Ending Date Week Ending November 6, 2011 Issue MN-CW-44-11 Agricultural Summary Dry conditions prevailed this past week, allowing producers to complete harvest activities, according to the USDA, NASS, Minnesota Field Office. As of November 6, corn was 98 percent harvested, compared to 93 percent last year and 73 percent for the five-year average. The average moisture content of harvested corn was 14 percent. Sunflowers were 99 percent harvested, compared to 97 percent last year and 75 percent average. In addition to harvest activities, producers were completing fall tillage, applying fertilizer, and installing and upgrading drainage systems. Statewide, 6.7 days were rated suitable for fieldwork. Temperatures across the state were nearly 5 degrees above normal for the week, and rain was minimal. Central and south central areas recorded no precipitation, while southeast areas recorded the highest weekly precipitation of 0.08 inch. Due to prolonged precipitation shortfalls, areas in the northeast, as well as most of southern Minnesota, were classified as undergoing moderate to severe drought by the U.S. Drought Monitor. Topsoil moisture supplies were rated 28 percent very short, 43 percent short, and 29 percent adequate, a decline from the previous week. Subsoil moisture supplies were rated 14 percent very short, 49 percent short, and 37 percent adequate. Pasture and range condition was rated 19 percent very poor, 21 percent poor, 33 percent fair, 25 percent good, and 2 percent excellent.
