mn-crop-weather State Minnesota Weekly Crop-Weather Week Ending Date Week Ending June 3, 2012 Issue MN-CW-22-12 Agricultural Summary The first soybean condition ratings of the year indicated the crop in generally good condition statewide, according to the USDA, NASS, Minnesota Field Office. As of June 3, soybean condition was reported as 1 percent very poor, 2 percent poor, 20 percent fair, 63 percent good and 14 percent excellent. During the week, weather conditions were variable throughout the state, with scattered frost reported in northwestern areas and continued rains in the southwestern portion of the state. Topsoil moisture supplies were rated 95 percent adequate to surplus. Statewide, 4.2 days were rated suitable for fieldwork. Corn was 98 percent emerged with an average height of 8 inches. Corn condition was rated 84 percent good to excellent. Soybeans planted advanced to 98 percent complete, compared to 69 percent last year and 90 percent for the five-year average. Soybeans were 76 percent emerged with an average height of 2 inches. Eighty-four percent of spring wheat and 81 percent of barley were jointed with 4 and 3 percent headed, respectively. Seventy-two percent of oats were jointed with 9 percent headed. All three crops were rated in primarily fair to good condition. Sunflower planting neared completion with 98 percent planted, compared to 55 percent last year and 80 percent average. Sunflower condition was rated 93 percent fair to good. Dry beans were 89 percent planted with 60 percent emerged. Dry bean condition was rated 87 percent fair to good. The first cutting of alfalfa advanced to 61 percent complete, compared to 16 percent last year and 30 percent average. Alfalfa condition was rated in primarily fair to good condition. Pasture and range condition was rated 3 percent poor, 20 percent fair, 60 percent good and 17 percent excellent.
