mn-crop-weather State Minnesota Weekly Crop-Weather Week Ending Date Week Ending June 10, 2012 Issue MN-CW-23-12 Agricultural Summary Topsoil moisture supplies declined slightly this past week as daytime high temperatures reached 90 degrees or higher in most locations, according to the USDA, NASS, Minnesota Field Office. As of June 10, topsoil moisture supplies were rated 85 percent adequate to surplus, compared with 95 percent the previous week. Despite above average temperatures and limited rainfall, crop conditions held relatively steady. The rain was well received in dry areas of the state, while other areas continued to dry out from excess rainfall during the month of May. Statewide, there were 5.7 days rated suitable for fieldwork. Eighty-two percent of the corn crop was rated in good to excellent condition with an average height of 14 inches. Seventy-four percent of soybeans were rated in good to excellent condition with an average height of 4 inches. Eighty-eight percent of spring wheat and barley were jointed, with 31 percent of spring wheat headed and 26 percent of barley headed. Eighty-six percent of oats were jointed with 34 percent headed. Crop condition for all three small grains was primarily rated fair to good. Sweet corn was 69 percent planted compared to 61 percent last year and 74 percent for the five-year average. Dry beans were 97 percent planted and 84 percent emerged. Dry beans were rated 85 percent in fair to good condition. First cutting alfalfa harvest was rated 78 percent complete. Alfalfa condition was rated 1 percent very poor, 6 percent poor, 24 percent fair, 59 percent good and 10 percent excellent. Pasture and range condition was rated 1 percent very poor, 7 percent poor, 19 percent fair, 57 percent good and 16 percent excellent.
