mn-crop-weather State Minnesota Weekly Crop-Weather Week Ending Date Week Ending June 17, 2012 Issue MN-CW-24-12 Agricultural Summary Topsoil moisture supplies improved over the previous week as widespread rains moved across the state, according to the USDA, NASS, Minnesota Field Office. Although the storm systems were strong with localized heavy rain that totaled over nine inches at one reporting station, statewide crop conditions remained relatively unchanged from the previous week. As of June 17, topsoil moisture supplies were rated 1 percent very short, 7 percent short, 75 percent adequate and 17 percent surplus. There were 4.5 days suitable for fieldwork during the week. Corn condition was rated 82 percent good to excellent, with an average height of 23 inches. Average soybean height was 6 inches and condition was rated 86 percent fair to good. Sixty-seven percent of oats were headed and 4 percent were turning ripe. Eighty-seven percent of oats were rated in fair to good condition. Spring wheat and barley were both 98 percent jointed and 71 percent headed. Spring wheat condition was rated 84 percent fair to good, and barley condition was rated 88 percent fair to good. Dry beans were 98 percent emerged and were rated 84 percent in fair to good condition. Sweet corn was 77 percent planted compared to 72 percent last year and 84 percent for the five-year average. First cutting of alfalfa advanced to 87 percent complete. Alfalfa condition was rated 1 percent very poor, 7 percent poor, 25 percent fair, 58 percent good and 9 percent excellent. Pasture and range condition was rated 5 percent poor, 20 percent fair, 58 percent good and 17 percent excellent.
