mn-crop-weather State Minnesota Weekly Crop-Weather Week Ending Date Week Ending September 2, 2012 Issue MN-CW-35-12 Agricultural Summary Warm, dry weather was widespread across the state this past week, yet corn condition ratings held steady from the previous week, according to the USDA, NASS, Minnesota Field Office. As of September 2, corn condition was rated 5 percent very poor, 12 percent poor, 33 percent fair, 43 percent good, and 7 percent excellent. Temperatures averaged 6.6 degrees above normal statewide, and limited precipitation was received. The highest amount of precipitation was recorded at the Wheaton reporting station, at just over a quarter of an inch. Statewide, topsoil moisture supplies were rated 22 percent very short, 41 percent short, and 37 percent adequate. During the week, 6.8 days were rated suitable for fieldwork. Corn was 88 percent in the dent stage or beyond, compared to 55 percent for the five year average, and 16 percent of corn was mature, compared to 5 percent average. Corn harvested for silage was 65 percent complete. Soybeans were 56 percent turning yellow or beyond, compared to 26 percent average, and 21 percent of soybeans were dropping leaves or beyond, compared to 5 percent average. Three percent of the state's soybeans were mature, compared to 0 percent average. Statewide, 80 percent of soybeans were rated in fair to good condition, unchanged from the previous week. Sugarbeet harvest was 7 percent complete with 77 percent of the crop rated in good to excellent condition. Potatoes were 30 percent harvested by week's end with 80 percent rated in good to excellent condition. Sweet corn harvest advanced to 84 percent complete. Other crops being harvested included dry beans at 21 percent and canola at 93 percent complete. Range and pasture condition was rated 19 percent very poor, 23 percent poor, 30 percent fair, 25 percent good, and 3 percent excellent.
