mn-crop-weather State Minnesota Weekly Crop-Weather Week Ending Date Week Ending September 30, 2012 Issue MN-CW-39-12 Agricultural Summary Corn and soybean producers made rapid harvest progress during the week, aided by dry conditions, according to the USDA, NASS, Minnesota Field Office. As of September 30, corn was 53 percent harvested, compared to 5 percent last year and 5 percent for the five-year average. The average moisture content of harvested corn was 16 percent. Soybeans were 76 percent harvested, compared to 26 percent last year and 23 percent average. The average moisture content of soybeans was 10 percent. Statewide, 6.9 days were rated suitable for fieldwork. Dry weather prevailed across the state this week. Most reporting stations recorded no precipitation during the week. Topsoil moisture supplies were rated 44 percent very short, 41 percent short, and 15 percent adequate, compared to 33 percent very short, 45 percent short, and 22 percent adequate the previous week. The dry bean harvest was 93 percent complete, compared to 69 percent last year and 69 percent average. Potatoes were 83 percent harvested, compared to 66 percent last year and 66 percent average. Sunflowers were 36 percent harvested, compared to 6 percent last year and 8 percent average. Sunflower conditions were rated 1 percent very poor, 2 percent poor, 15 percent fair, 58 percent good, and 24 percent excellent. Sugarbeets were 20 percent harvested compared to 10 percent last year, and 17 percent average. Sugarbeets conditions were rated 1 percent very poor, 3 percent poor, 21 percent fair, 61 percent good, and 14 percent excellent. Range and pasture conditions were rated 30 percent very poor, 30 percent poor, 25 percent fair, 14 percent good, and 1 percent excellent.
