mn-crop-weather State Minnesota Weekly Crop-Weather Week Ending Date Week Ending October 14, 2012 Issue MN-CW-41-12 Agricultural Summary Despite scattered showers in some areas, harvest progress was made in crops yet to be harvested, according to the USDA, NASS, Minnesota Field Office. As of October 14, the sugarbeet harvest advanced 33 percentage points from the previous week to reach 74 percent harvested, compared to 43 percent last year and 62 percent for the five-year average. Corn was 90 percent harvested, compared to 40 percent last year and 27 percent average. The average moisture content of harvested corn was 14 percent. The sunflower harvest advanced 9 points to reach 76 percent harvested, compared to 45 percent last year and 33 percent average. Statewide, 6.0 days were rated suitable for fieldwork during the week. Scattered showers occurred in some areas, and produced varying amounts of precipitation. Amounts ranged from no precipitation in central areas, to nearly an inch and a half recorded in Preston. Topsoil moisture supplies were rated 50 percent very short, 36 percent short, and 14 percent adequate, compared to 45 percent very short, 41 percent short, and 14 percent adequate the previous week. Range and pasture conditions were rated 34 percent very poor, 29 percent poor, 25 percent fair, 11 percent good, and 1 percent excellent.
