mn-crop-weather State Minnesota Weekly Crop-Weather Week Ending Date Week Ending October 21, 2012 Issue MN-CW-42-12 Agricultural Summary Harvest was nearly complete, despite rainfall across the state, according to the USDA, NASS, Minnesota Field Office. For the week ending October 21, corn was 96 percent harvested, compared to 70 percent last year and 43 percent for the five-year average. The average moisture content of harvested corn was 13 percent. Sunflowers were 96 percent harvested, compared to 66 percent last year, and 47 percent average. Sugarbeets were 88 percent harvested compared to 83 percent last year and 81 percent average. Statewide, 5.0 days were rated suitable for fieldwork. Precipitation from scattered showers was recorded at all reporting stations. Weekly totals ranged from 0.05 inch at Preston to 2.10 inches recorded at Wheaton. Topsoil moisture supplies were rated 41 percent very short, 40 percent short, 17 percent adequate, and 2 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies were rated 55 percent very short, 34 percent short, and 11 percent adequate. Pasture and range condition was rated 34 percent very poor, 32 percent poor, 23 percent fair, 10 percent good, and 1 percent excellent.
