mn-crop-weather State Minnesota Weekly Crop-Weather Week Ending Date Week Ending October 28, 2012 Issue MN-CW-43-12 Agricultural Summary Minnesota farmers nearly wrapped up harvest this past week, according to the USDA, NASS, Minnesota Field Office. Despite mixed precipitation of rain and snow during the week, harvest of corn, sunflowers, and sugarbeets neared completion. As of October 28, corn was 98 percent harvested, compared to 89 percent last year, and 58 percent for the five-year average. Sunflowers were 99 percent harvested, compared to 85 percent last year, and 61 percent average. The sugarbeet harvest was 93 percent complete, compared to 99 percent last year, and 92 percent average. For the week ending October 28, 4.2 days were rated suitable for fieldwork. Mixed precipitation during the week increased moisture supplies statewide. All reporting stations recorded precipitation, although amounts were lighter in western areas. Over an inch was recorded at most reporting stations in southeastern areas. Topsoil moisture supplies were rated 27 percent very short, 42 percent short, 29 percent adequate, and 2 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies were rated 47 percent very short, 41 percent short, and 12 percent adequate. Range and pasture condition was rated 33 percent very poor, 32 percent poor, 26 percent fair, and 9 percent good.
