Row crop harvesting was slowed by rainfall over the northern and western parts of the State during the past week. There were 5.3 days suitable for fieldwork. Some late planted corn and soybeans have yet to mature. State-wide, topsoil moisture rates 2 percent very short, 12 percent short, 77 percent adequate, and 9 percent surplus, nearly 20 points above normal in adequate to surplus. Grain movement from farm to elevator rates 12 percent none, 29 percent light, 48 percent moderate, and 11 percent heavy. OFF-Farm storage availability rates 28 percent short, 67 percent adequate, and 5 surplus. ON-Farm storage availability rates 25 percent short, 70 percent adequate, and 5 percent surplus. Fall tillage is 50 percent complete, about normal for this time of year.
Corn harvest is 71 percent complete, over a month behind last year and normal. Ninety-five percent of the soybean acreage is mature, 12 days behind last year and 13 days behind normal. Harvest increased 16 points from last week to 76 percent complete, 8 days behind normal. Rice harvest is complete. Cotton harvest is virtually complete at 97 percent, 19 days ahead of normal. Sorghum harvest is 69 percent complete, three weeks behind normal. Winter wheat is 78 percent planted, 7 days behind last year and 5 days behind normal. Emergence is at 50 percent, over a week behind normal. Winter wheat condition is rated 2 percent poor, 42 percent fair, 51 percent good, and 5 percent excellent.
Pasture condition is rated 1 percent very poor, 6 percent poor, 35 percent fair, 52 percent good and 6 percent excellent, well ahead of normal for November.
Temperatures ranged from normal to 5 degrees above average across the State. Rainfall for the week averaged 0.64, ranging from 0.05 inches in the southeast district to 1.67 inches in the west-central district and 1.45 inches in the north-central district.
