With the dry week, harvest season is nearing completion as farmers had 6.2 days suitable for fieldwork. Reporters commented that crop yields are better than expected. State-wide, topsoil moisture rates 2 percent very short, 14 percent short, 76 percent adequate, and 8 percent surplus. Fall tillage is 63 percent complete, 3 days behind normal. Grain movement from farm to elevator rates 10 percent none, 44 percent light, 36 percent moderate, and 10 percent heavy. OFF-Farm storage availability rates 25 percent short, 73 percent adequate, and 2 surplus. ON-Farm storage availability rates 29 percent short, 66 percent adequate, and 5 percent surplus.
Corn harvest advanced to 88 percent complete, almost a month behind last year and normal. Corn moisture at harvest averaged 16 percent. Soybean harvest is 91 percent complete, 14 days behind last year and 8 days behind normal. Progress in the southwest district advanced 35 points from last week to 80 percent complete. Sorghum harvest is 89 percent complete, over two weeks behind last year and normal. Only 70 percent of the crop is harvested in the central district. Winter wheat is 93 percent planted, 12 days behind last year but the same as normal for this time of year. About 20 percent of the expected planted acres are left to be seeded in the central and west-central districts. Emergence is at 76 percent, 10 days behind last year and 7 days behind normal. Winter wheat condition is rated 2 percent poor, 42 percent fair, 50 percent good, and 6 percent excellent. Winter wheat in good or better condition improved 6 points from last week.
Pasture condition is rated 1 percent very poor, 7 percent poor, 37 percent fair, 49 percent good and 6 percent excellent.
Temperatures ranged from 5 to 13 degrees below average across the State. Rainfall was very light at 0.01 inches for the State. The north-central, northeast, southwest, and southeast districts reported no rainfall.
