Wet weather hampered harvest efforts across the State. Topsoil moisture, statewide, is rated 8 percent short, 82 percent adequate, and 10 percent surplus. There were 3.9 days suitable for fieldwork.
Corn dent is 95 percent complete while sixty-eight percent of the corn is mature, 4 days ahead of last year but 15 days behind a normal of 88 percent. Corn harvested is 19 percent complete, 2 days ahead of last year but 19 days behind the normal of 51 percent. The percent moisture of corn harvested is 19 percent statewide with a range of 14 to 22 percent. Corn condition is rated 2 percent very poor, 7 percent poor, 26 percent fair, 46 percent good, and 19 percent excellent. Soybeans turning color is at 67 percent, 3 days ahead of last year but 6 days behind the normal of 82 percent. Forty percent of soybeans are dropping leaves, 5 days ahead of last year but 6 days behind normal. Fourteen percent of the soybeans are mature, 3 days ahead of last year but 7 days behind normal. Soybean harvest is 2 percent complete. Soybean condition is rated 3 percent very poor, 7 percent poor, 29 percent fair, 46 percent good, and 15 percent excellent. Cotton opening bolls is at 43 percent, 14 days behind last year and 21 days behind normal. Cotton condition is 1 percent very poor, 12 percent poor, 27 percent fair, 53 percent good, and 7 percent excellent. Rice harvested is 26 percent complete, same as last year but 9 days behind normal. Rice condition is rated 1 percent poor, 16 percent fair, 54 percent good, and 29 percent excellent. Sorghum turning color is 89 percent complete, 5 days ahead of last year but 5 days behind normal. Sorghum mature is at 47 percent, 4 days behind last year and 12 days behind normal. The sorghum harvest is 6 percent complete, 9 days behind last year and 20 days behind the normal of 33 percent. Sorghum condition is rated 4 percent poor, 27 percent fair, 56 percent good, and 13 percent excellent, an improvement from last week. Winter wheat seeding is 3 percent complete. Emergence is at 1 percent.
Pasture condition is rated 3 percent poor, 27 percent fair, 62 percent good, and 8 percent excellent.
Temperatures averaged 4 to 6 degrees above average in the southeast district and normal to 4 degrees above average across the rest of the State. Rainfall averaged 1.76 inches for the week. The northeast district recorded the most precipitation with 3.08 inches, while the northwest district reported 0.84 of an inch. Scotland county reported 4.20 inches during the week.
