Agricultural Summary

Winter wheat harvest neared completion with a dry week across most of the State but all crops except for cotton and rice declined in condition.  There were 6.6 days suitable for fieldwork. Topsoil moisture supply was 9 percent very short, 44 percent short, 46 percent adequate and 1 percent surplus. Topsoil rated short and very short increased 30 points last week.  Subsoil moisture supply was 3 percent very short, 30 percent short, 66 percent adequate and 1 percent surplus.

Field Crops Report

Corn silked was 30 percent complete, 22 days behind last year and 11 day behind normal (5-year average). Two percent of corn was in the dough stage, 20 days behind last year and 12 days behind normal. Corn condition was 3 percent very poor, 11 percent poor, 31 percent fair, 46 percent good, and 9 percent excellent.  Soybeans were 95 percent emerged, 15 days behind last year and 2 days behind normal.  Soybean blooming was 7 percent complete, 17 days behind last year and 11 days behind normal.  Soybean condition was 4 very poor, 9 percent poor, 34 percent fair, 47 percent good, and 6 percent excellent. Some recently planted soybeans need a rain to emerge.  Cotton squaring was 62 percent complete, 16 days behind last year and 11 days behind normal. Cotton setting bolls was 19 percent complete, 1 day ahead of last year but 4 days behind normal.  Cotton condition was 5 percent poor, 31 percent fair, 60 percent good, and 4 percent excellent. Rice condition was 3 percent poor, 33 percent fair, 36 percent good, and 28 percent excellent.  Sorghum headed was 5 percent complete, 16 days behind last year and 9 days behind normal. Sorghum condition was 1 percent very poor, 4 percent poor, 42 percent fair, 52 percent good, and 1 percent excellent. Winter wheat harvested was 97 percent complete, 20 days behind last year but the same as normal. Alfalfa hay 2nd cutting was 66 percent, 22 days behind last year and 2 days behind normal.  Alfalfa hay 3rd cutting was 1 percent, 26 days behind last year and 22 days behind normal.   Other hay cut was 89 percent, 22 days behind last year, but 6 days ahead of normal. 

Pasture & Livestock

Pasture conditions were 1 percent very poor, 8 percent poor, 38 percent fair, 48 percent good, and 5 percent excellent. Supply of hay and other roughages was 8 percent short, 85 percent adequate and 7 percent surplus.  Stock water supplies were 5 percent short, 89 percent adequate and 6 percent surplus. 

Weather Summary

Temperatures were 2 degree below average to 3 degrees above average across the state. Precipitation averaged 0.24 of an inch statewide.  The east-central district reported 0.98 of an inch. Washington County reported 2.47 inches.
