Agricultural Summary

Widespread rainfall across the State improved pastures and late soybeans.  There were 4.7 days suitable for fieldwork. Topsoil moisture supply was 21 percent very short, 48 percent short, and 31 percent adequate.  Topsoil rated adequate increased 17 points from last week.  Subsoil moisture supply was 27 percent very short, 44 percent short, and 29 percent adequate.  The north-central, northeast districts are rated 96 and 95 percent short and very short. 

Field Crops Report

Corn dented was 96 percent complete, 23 days behind last year but the same as normal (5-year average).  Corn mature was 57 percent, 31 days behind last year and 11 days behind normal. Corn harvested was 16 percent complete, 36 days behind last year and 17 days behind normal.  Corn moisture at harvest was 20.7 percent, ranging from 18.0 percent in the southeast to 26.1 percent in the south-central district.  Last year the corn moisture at harvest was 15.2 percent.  Corn condition was 9 percent very poor, 18 percent poor, 33 percent fair, 35 percent good, and 5 percent excellent.  Soybeans turning color was 54 percent complete, 8 days behind last year and 2 days behind normal. Soybeans dropping leaves was 21 percent complete, 9 days behind last year and 4 days behind normal.  Soybeans mature were 4 percent, 9 days behind last year and 5 days behind normal. Soybean condition was 11 percent very poor, 22 percent poor, 35 percent fair, 28 percent good, and 4 percent excellent.  Cotton opening bolls was 16 percent complete, 36 days behind last year and 26 days behind normal.  Cotton condition was 3 percent very poor, 15 percent poor, 34 percent fair, 46 percent good, and 2 percent excellent. Rice harvested was 18 percent complete, 20 days behind last year and 12 days behind normal.  Rice condition was 4 percent poor, 30 percent fair, 43 percent good, and 23 percent excellent.  Eighty-seven percent of sorghum was turning color and beyond, 2 days behind last year but 3 days ahead of normal. Sorghum mature was 28 percent, 17 days behind last year and 12 days behind normal. Sorghum harvested was 3 percent complete, 18 days behind last year and 15 days behind normal. Sorghum condition was 2 percent very poor, 9 percent poor, 37 percent fair, 49 percent good, and 3 percent excellent.  Winter wheat planting was 1 percent complete, 9 days behind last year and 7 days behind normal.  

Pasture & Livestock

Pasture conditions were 12 percent very poor, 20 percent poor, 42 percent fair, 25 percent good, and 1 percent excellent. Supply of hay and other roughages was 1 percent very short, 9 percent short, 78 percent adequate, and 12 percent surplus.  Stock water supplies were 3 percent very short, 17 percent short, 78 percent adequate, and 2 percent surplus. 

Weather Summary

Temperatures were average to 2 degrees above average across the state.  Precipitation averaged 1.52 inches statewide.  The southwest district reported 2.10 inches. Jackson and Barry Counties reported 4.10 and 4.09 inches.
