Agricultural Summary

The State experienced above average temperatures and scattered showers last week. There were 5.6 days suitable for fieldwork. Topsoil moisture supply was 15 percent very short, 41 percent short, 43 percent adequate, and 1 percent surplus.  Topsoil rated adequate and surplus increased 13 points from last week.  Subsoil moisture supply was 24 percent very short, 43 percent short, and 33 percent adequate. Fall tillage was 7 percent, 16 days behind last year and 4 days behind normal (5-year average).   

Field Crops Report

Corn mature was 79 percent, 29 days behind last year and 4 days behind normal.  Corn harvested was 26 percent complete, 37 days behind last year and 15 days behind normal. The southeast district is 77 percent harvested.  Corn moisture at harvest was 19.3 percent, ranging from 17.0 percent in the east-central district to 20.9 percent in the northwest district.  Last year the corn moisture at harvest was 15.2 percent.  Corn condition was 8 percent very poor, 16 percent poor, 33 percent fair, 37 percent good, and 6 percent excellent.  Soybeans turning color was 73 percent complete, 7 days behind last year and 1 day behind normal. Soybeans dropping leaves was 39 percent complete, 7 days behind last year and 3 days behind normal.  Soybeans mature were 12 percent, 8 days behind last year and 5 days behind normal. Soybeans harvested were 3 percent, 8 days behind last year and 3 days behind normal. Soybean condition was 10 percent very poor, 19 percent poor, 38 percent fair, 29 percent good, and 4 percent excellent.  Cotton opening bolls was 29 percent complete, 36 days behind last year and 24 days behind normal.  Cotton condition was 3 percent very poor, 15 percent poor, 34 percent fair, 46 percent good, and 2 percent excellent. Rice harvested was 37 percent complete, 19 days behind last year and 9 days behind normal.  Rice condition was 4 percent poor, 29 percent fair, 44 percent good, and 23 percent excellent.  Eighty-nine percent of sorghum was turning color and beyond, 8 days behind last year and 3 days behind normal. Sorghum mature was 44 percent, 16 days behind last year and 8 days behind normal. Sorghum harvested was 10 percent complete, 15 days behind last year and 10 days behind normal. Sorghum condition was 2 percent very poor, 8 percent poor, 37 percent fair, 50 percent good, and 3 percent excellent.  Winter wheat planting was 3 percent complete, 11 days behind last year and 5 days behind normal.  

Pasture & Livestock

Pasture conditions improved to 6 percent very poor, 19 percent poor, 44 percent fair, 30 percent good, and 1 percent excellent. Supply of hay and other roughages was 1 percent very short, 9 percent short, 78 percent adequate, and 12 percent surplus.  Stock water supplies were 2 percent very short, 17 percent short, 79 percent adequate, and 2 percent surplus. 

Weather Summary

Temperatures were 3 degrees to 7 degrees above average across the state.  Precipitation averaged 0.51 of an inch statewide.  The southeast district reported 0.83 inches. New Madrid County reported 2.35 inches.
