Agricultural Summary

Dry weather across the State allowed for significant harvest progress with over 1.3 million acres harvested.  Many areas in the state had the first frost of the season.  There were 6.4 days suitable for fieldwork. Topsoil moisture supply was 19 percent very short, 39 percent short, 39 percent adequate, and 3 percent surplus.  The north-central district was rated 96 percent short and very short.  The southeast district was rated 19 percent surplus.  Subsoil moisture supply was 28 percent very short, 38 percent short, and 34 percent adequate. The north-central and northeast districts were rated 97 and 98 percent short and very short. Fall tillage was 37 percent complete, 19 days behind last year and 5 days behind normal (5-year average).   

Field Crops Report

Corn harvested was 77 percent complete, 36 days behind last year but same as normal. Corn moisture at harvest was 16.4 percent, ranging from 13.9 percent in the southwest district to 17.6 percent in the south-central district.  Soybeans dropping leaves was 96 percent complete, 1 day behind last year but same as normal.  Soybeans mature were 81 percent, 5 days behind last year and 4 days behind normal. Soybeans harvested were 51 percent complete, 6 days behind last year and 4 days behind normal. Soybean condition was 8 percent very poor, 20 percent poor, 35 percent fair, 32 percent good, and 5 percent excellent.  Cotton opening bolls was 84 percent complete, 36 days behind last year and 26 days behind normal.  Cotton harvested was 26 percent complete, 26 days behind last year and 22 days behind normal.  Cotton condition was 4 percent very poor, 17 percent poor, 33 percent fair, 44 percent good, and 2 percent excellent. Rice harvested was 89 percent complete, 23 days behind last year and 3 days behind normal. Sorghum mature was 96 percent, 1 day behind last year but 4 days ahead of normal. Sorghum harvested was 58 percent complete, 8 days behind last year and 5 days behind normal. Sorghum condition was 2 percent very poor, 8 percent poor, 38 percent fair, 49 percent good, and 3 percent excellent.  Winter wheat planting was 51 percent complete, 7 days behind last year and 3 days behind normal.  Winter wheat emerged was 26 percent, 10 days behind last year and 4 days behind normal.  Winter wheat condition was 1 percent poor, 58 percent fair, 39 percent good, and 2 percent excellent.  

Pasture & Livestock

Pasture condition was 6 percent very poor, 24 percent poor, 42 percent fair, 27 percent good, and 1 percent excellent. Supply of hay and other roughages was 1 percent very short, 10 percent short, 76 percent adequate, and 13 percent surplus.  Some producers have started feeding hay.  Stock water supplies were 3 percent very short, 23 percent short, 73 percent adequate, and 1 percent surplus. 

Weather Summary

Temperatures were 7 degree to 11 degrees below average across the state.  Precipitation averaged 0.05 of an inch statewide.  The northeast districted received 0.15 of an inch.
