Agricultural Summary

Midweek rains limited harvest and fieldwork progress.  There were 3.5 days suitable for fieldwork. Topsoil moisture supply was 3 percent very short, 18 percent short, 72 percent adequate, and 7 percent surplus.  The southeast district was rated 30 percent surplus.  Subsoil moisture supply was 16 percent very short, 29 percent short, 54 percent adequate, and 1 percent surplus.  The northeast district is rated 90 percent short and very short.  Fall tillage was 66 percent complete, 24 days behind last year and 11 days behind normal (5-year average).   

Field Crops Report

Corn harvested was 96 percent complete, 37 days behind last year but 8 days ahead of normal. Corn moisture at harvest was 16.0 percent, ranging from 14.1 percent in the southwest district to 17.2 percent in the north-central district.  Soybeans harvested were 92 percent complete, 10 days behind last year and 7 days behind normal. Cotton harvested was 85 percent complete, 18 days behind last year and 13 days behind normal.  Sorghum harvested was 97 percent complete, 4 days behind last year but 9 days ahead of normal. Winter wheat planting was 92 percent complete, 12 days behind last year but 3 days ahead of normal.  Winter wheat emerged was 80 percent complete, 6 days behind last year but 2 days ahead of normal.  Winter wheat condition was 2 percent poor, 48 percent fair, 47 percent good, and 3 percent excellent.  

Pasture & Livestock

Pasture condition was 4 percent very poor, 17 percent poor, 51 percent fair, 26 percent good, and 2 percent excellent. Supply of hay and other roughages was 1 percent very short, 9 percent short, 78 percent adequate, and 12 percent surplus.   Stock water supplies were 2 percent very short, 17 percent short, 80 percent adequate, and 1 percent surplus. 

Weather Summary

Temperatures ranged from 5 to 8 degrees below average across the state.  Precipitation averaged 0.86 of an inch statewide.  The southeast district received 1.60 inches. Ozark County reported 2.82 inches.
