Corn and Soybean Production Similar To Month Ago
Columbia, MO - “As harvest nears completion, most producers are pleasantly surprised by the harvest yield,” said Gene Danekas, Director. “At or above average yields are predicted despite the heat and drought stress experienced in many localities.”
Missouri soybean production is forecast at 168 million bushels based on November 1 conditions, unchanged from last month but 13 percent less than 2006. A State yield average of 37 bushels per acre is expected, unchanged from October but 1 bushel below last year’s yield.
Corn production in Missouri is forecast at 455 million bushels, unchanged from the October forecast but 25 percent above last year’s crop. The projected yield of 140 bushels per acre is also unchanged from a month earlier but slightly more than the 138 bushel yield of 2006.
Cotton production in Missouri is forecast at a record 770,000 bales, down 1 percent from the October 1 forecast and 22 percent below last year’s production. The forecast yield of 950 pounds is down 12 pounds from last month and 3 pounds below last year’s yield.
Missouri grain sorghum production is forecast at 10.8 million bushels, unchanged from the October forecast but 34 percent above last year. The State yield forecast of 103 bushels per acre is also unchanged from a month earlier and 18 bushels above last year.
Rice production in the State is expected to total a record 12.1 million cwt, unchanged from the October forecast but 12 percent less than 2006. A yield of 6,800 pounds per acre is forecast, the same as expected a month earlier but 400 pounds more than the 2006 yield. This ties the record high set in 2004.

United States soybean production is forecast at 2.59 billion bushels, down slightly from the October forecast and down 19 percent from last year's record high. Based on November 1 conditions, yields are expected to average 41.3 bushels per acre, down 0.1 bushel from last month and down 1.4 bushels from last year. Area for harvest in the U.S. is forecast at 62.8 million acres, unchanged from last month but down 16 percent from 2006.
Corn production is forecast at 13.2 billion bushels, down 1 percent from last month but 25 percent above 2006. Based on conditions as of November 1, yields are expected to average 153.0 bushels per acre, down 1.7 bushels from October but 3.9 bushels above last year. If realized, this yield would be the second highest on record, behind 2004.
All cotton production is forecast at 18.9 million 480-pound bales, up 4 percent from last month but down 13 percent from last year's 21.6 million bales. Yield is expected to average 859 pounds per harvested acre, up 33 pounds from last month and up 45 pounds from 2006. If realized, the yield will be the largest on record surpassing the previous record of 855 pounds per acre set in 2004
Sorghum production is forecast at 515 million bushels, up 3 percent from the October 1 forecast and 85 percent above 2006.. Based on November 1 conditions, the sorghum yield forecast is at a record high 76.8 bushels per acre, up 2.0 bushels from October and up 20.6 bushels from last year.
Rice production is forecast at 198 million cwt, up slightly from the October forecast and up 2 percent from last year. The yield is forecast at a record high 7,247 pounds per acre, up 32 pounds from last month and 379 pounds above last year. If realized, this will surpass the previous record high yield of 6,988 pounds per acre set in 2004.
