Atchison County Leads in Corn and Soybeans

(Columbia, MO) - The 2009 yields of corn, soybeans, and sorghum were released today showing where the excellent crop yields were experienced during the past season. Atchison county produced the largest average county corn yield at 185 bushels per acre making them the largest corn producing county in Missouri with 26.1 million bushels produced. Saline county followed in the number two position with 22.0 million bushels produced, averaging 164 bushels per acre. More than half the states production is concentrated in the northern 3 districts of the state with the Bootheel region adding another 14 percent.

Atchison county also led the state with an average soybean yield of 54.5 bushels per acre, while New Madrid county led in total production of 8.94 million bushels, from nearly 200,000 harvested acres. The Bootheel region of Missouri was the leading region with soybean production of nearly 50 million bushels, more the 21 percent of the state soybean crop.
