Weather Summary

Montana had warm temperatures and light precipitation for the week ending June 14th. Superior received the greatest amount of precipitation with 1.96 inches. Wolf Point had the high temperature at 87 degrees. Goldbutte, for the second week in row, had the low temperature at 22 degrees. Topsoil moisture is 56 percent adequate and surplus, below last week's 78 and last year's 86 percent. Adequate and surplus subsoil moisture is 56 percent as well, down from last week's 73, and last year's 64 percent. The number of days suitable for field work was 6.0, up from last week's 5.3, and last year's 2.4 days. The five year average is 3.4 days. The weather outlook for June 22nd through June 28th is calling for above normal temperatures and below normal precipitation east of the continental divide. West of the divide is looking at near normal temperatures and precipitation. Normal temperatures for this period in Montana are highs in the upper 60s to 80, and lows ranging from the mid 30s to the mid 50s.

Field Crops Report

Crops are in the ground and are all near the previous year and five year averages for the emerged stage. Small grains are slightly behind in boot stage due to weather conditions in April. Hay fields are progressing across the state and producers are expected to begin first cutting within the next two weeks.
