Weather Summary

Summer temperatures across Montana have remained warm while almost all areas of the state received light to moderate precipitation. Superior, for the second week, received the greatest amount of moisture with 2.22 inches. Scobey had the high temperature at 94 degrees and Cascade had the low at 34. Topsoil moisture is 60 percent adequate and surplus, above last week's 56, but below last year's 79 percent. Subsoil moisture is 63 percent adequate and surplus, up from last week's 56, and last year's 60 percent. The number of days suitable for field work was 5.9, up from last year's 5.6. The weather outlook for June 29th through July 5th is calling for above normal temperatures across the state. East of the divide can expect near normal precipitation, but west of the divide is expected to have below normal precipitation. Normal temperatures for this period in Montana are highs in the lower 70s to mid 80s, and lows from 40 degrees to the upper 50s.

Field Crops Report

Small grains are all over 60 percent good and excellent condition. First cuttings for alfalfa and other hay are 7 and 8 percent complete, respectively. Winter wheat headed is above last year's 42 percent at 48, but behind the five year average of 68 percent.
