Field Crops Report

Many fields in central Montana again received heavy rainstorms with some damage. Although it has been light in some areas, the widespread moisture will improve crop conditions in many areas. First cutting of alfalfa and other hay is well underway at 69 and 63 percent complete, respectively.

Livestock Report

The USDA's Animal Plant Health and Inspection Service (APHIS) reported on Thursday, July 9th, that Montana has been changed from a Class A to a Class Free status for Brucellosis. This will re-open opportunities for interstate movement and trade of Montana beef. Range and pasture feed condition decreased from 52 percent good to excellent last week to 46 percent, however, moisture received late in the week should improve the condition in most areas.
