Weather Summary

Montana experienced above normal temperatures with very limited precipitation for the week ending September 27th. Highs were in the 80s to 90s, and lows were mostly in the 20s and 30s. There were several new record high temperatures set September 24th throughout North Central and Southwest Montana. Havre for the second consecutive week along with Fort Benton shared the high temperature of 94 degrees, and Wisdom had the low temperature for the third consecutive week of 17 degrees. Shelby and Sidney shared the greatest amount of weekly precipitation with 0.25 of an inch. Topsoil moisture is 28 percent adequate and surplus, down from last week's 30 percent, as well as last year's 64 percent and below the five-year average of 48 percent. Subsoil moisture is 30 percent adequate and surplus, down from last week's 31 percent, as well as last year's 48 percent but above the five-year average of 29 percent. The number of days suitable for field work increased to 6.7 days from the previous week's 6.5 days.

Montana temperatures are forecasted to be below normal, and precipitation is forecasted to be near normal for October 5th to October 11th. Normal temperatures for this period in the state are highs ranging from the upper 50s to the upper 60s and lows in the middle 20s to the 40s.
