Weather Summary

Montana experienced normal temperatures with widespread moisture for the week ending October 4th. Highs were in the 70s to 80s, and lows were mostly in the 20s and 30s. There were several new records for precipitation as well as for snowfall set September 30th throughout Central and Southwest Montana. Rapelje had the high temperature of 86 degrees, and Wisdom had the low temperature of 17 degrees for an entire month. Cascade had the greatest amount of weekly precipitation with 1.27 inches. Topsoil moisture is 45 percent adequate and surplus, up from last week's 28 percent, but below last year's 64 percent as well as the five-year average of 53 percent. Subsoil moisture is 34 percent adequate and surplus, up from last week's 30 percent, but below last year's 44 percent and above the five-year average of 31 percent. The number of days suitable for field work decreased to 5.0 days from the previous week's 6.7 days.

For October 12th to the 18th, temperatures east of the continental divide are forecasted to be above normal and precipitation is forecasted to be below normal. Both temperature and precipitation west of the divide are supposed to be above normal. Normal temperatures for this period in the state are highs ranging from the middle 50s to the middle 60s and lows in the middle 20s to the upper 30s.
