Weather Summary Montana experienced cooler temperatures
with adequate moisture for the week ending October 11th. Highs were in
the 50s to 60s, and lows were mostly in the teens and 20s. Havre had the
high temperature of 67 degrees, and Cascade had the low temperature of
minus 12 degrees. Huntley had the greatest amount of weekly precipitation
with 1.48 inches. Topsoil moisture is 40 percent adequate and surplus,
down from last week's 45 percent as well as last year's 71 percent and
below the five-year average of 61 percent. Subsoil moisture is 29 percent
adequate and surplus, down from last week's 34 percent as well as last
year's 55 percent and below the five-year average of 37 percent. The number
of days suitable for field work decreased to 3.8 days from the previous
week's 5.0 days.
Montana temperatures are forecasted to be near normal, and precipitation
is forecasted to be above normal for October 20th to October 26th. Normal
temperatures for this period in the state are highs ranging from the lower
50s to the lower 60s and lows in the lower 20s to the upper 30s.

Winter wheat seeding is ninety percent complete and emergence is fifty-one
percent complete, slightly below last year's progress. Cooler temperatures
along with moisture have put a halt on durum wheat harvest.
