| May 2008 full month crop prices were mostly higher when
compared with April 2008, according to USDA, National Agricultural Statistics
Service, Montana Field Office. When compared with April 2008, Montana's
winter wheat price was $9.12 per bushel, up $0.63, spring wheat was up
$1.61 to $11.30 per bushel, durum wheat decreased $4.60 to $11.20 per
bushel, feed barley was down $0.48 to $4.07 per bushel, malt barley was
$6.05 per bushel, up $1.33, and oats were $3.44 per bushel.
The mid-June price for alfalfa hay decreased $15.00 to $84.00 per ton and all other hay decreased $3.00 to $99.00 per ton. Mid-June grain prices were lower when compared with May. The winter wheat price was $8.70 per bushel, spring wheat was $9.31 per bushel, durum wheat was $9.12 per bushel, and feed barley was $3.73 per bushel. Livestock prices for the full month of May were mixed when compared with the previous month. Steers and heifers were down $0.70 to $98.80 per cwt, but cows increased $3.40 to $54.30 per cwt. The price for calves rose $3.00 to $116.00 per cwt. Sheep were down $4.70 to $19.80 per cwt, but lambs increased $3.00 to $104.00 per cwt. Milk increased $0.40 per cwt to $18.60 per cwt. Mid-month June steers and heifers were $95.80 per cwt, cows were $52.50 per cwt, beef cattle were $75.90 per cwt, calves were $115.00 per cwt, and all milk was $17.30 per cwt. Nationally, prices for May and changes from April were as follows: winter wheat was $8.17 per bushel, down $1.44, spring wheat was $10.70 per bushel, up $0.20, durum wheat was $13.50 per bushel, down $0.30, all barley was $4.52 per bushel, down $0.02, oats were $3.63 per bushel, up $0.15, steers and heifers were $95.90 per cwt, up $4.30, cows were $53.90 per cwt, up $3.40, beef cattle were $91.10 per cwt, up $4.50, calves were up $3.00 to $119.00 per cwt, sheep were $27.70 per cwt, down $1.10, lambs were $100.00 per cwt, up $0.60 and all milk was $18.40 per cwt, up $0.40. The U.S. mid-June price for winter wheat was $8.00 per bushel, spring wheat was $10.10 per bushel, durum wheat was $12.10 per bushel, all wheat was $8.28 per bushel, oats were $3.64 per bushel, malt barley was $4.94 per bushel, feed barley was $4.18 per bushel, and all barley was $4.70, steers and heifers were $95.90 per cwt, cows were $53.80 per cwt, calves were $120.00 per cwt, all hogs were $53.60 per cwt, all milk was $19.40 per cwt, and all eggs were $1.06 per dozen. The preliminary All Farm Products Index is up 25 points (18 percent) from June 2007.
