| November full month crop prices were mostly lower when compared
with October 2009. Montana's full month November crop prices and changes
from the previous month are as follows: Winter wheat was $4.67 per bushel,
up $0.21, spring wheat was $5.68 per bushel, up $0.14, durum wheat was
$5.17 per bushel, down $0.01, feed barley was $2.01 per bushel, down $0.76,
and malt barley was $4.75 per bushel, down $0.22. The mid-December price for alfalfa hay was unchanged from November at $93.00 per ton, but all other hay dropped $11.00 to $83.00 per ton. Mid-December grain prices were mostly higher than November with winter wheat at $4.76 per bushel, spring wheat was $5.75 per bushel, durum wheat was $6.22 per bushel, feed barley was $2.50 per bushel and malt barley was $4.55 per bushel. Livestock prices for the full month of November were mostly higher when compared to October 2009. Full month November livestock prices and the changes from the previous month are as follows: Steers and heifers were $97.00 per cwt unchanged, cows were $38.60 per cwt, down $2.00, beef cattle were $77.10 per cwt, down $6.90, calves were $108.00 per cwt, up $1.00, sheep were $39.00 per cwt, up $9.10, lambs were $106.00 per cwt, up $9.50, and all milk was $16.00 per cwt, up $1.40. Montana mid-December prices were mixed when compared to November with steers and heifers at $97.20 per cwt, cows were $41.60 per cwt, beef cattle were $72.20 per cwt, calves were $108.00 per cwt, and all milk was $15.80 per cwt. Nationally, prices for November and changes from October were as follows: Winter wheat was $4.60 per bushel, up $0.34, spring wheat was $5.19 per bushel, up $0.20, durum wheat was $4.62 per bushel, down $0.35, all barley was $4.53 per bushel, up $0.18, oats were $2.02 per bushel, down $0.01, steers and heifers were $85.40 per cwt, up $1.00, cows were $41.70 per cwt, down $1.90, beef cattle were $79.60 per cwt, up $0.40, calves were $105.00 per cwt, up $1.00, sheep were $36.80 per cwt, up $6.80, and lambs were $98.00 per cwt, up $1.00. The U.S. mid-December winter wheat price was $4.49 per bushel, spring wheat was $5.17 per bushel, durum wheat was $4.87 per bushel, oats were $2.07 per bushel, malt barley was $4.42 per bushel, feed barley was $2.52 per bushel, alfalfa hay was $110.00 per ton, and all other hay was $98.90 per ton. Mid-December steers and heifers were $83.50 per cwt, cows were $42.90 per cwt, calves were $105.00 per cwt, all milk was $16.30 per cwt. The preliminary All Farm Products Index of Prices Received by Farmers in December, at 136 percent, based on 1990-92=100, was unchanged from November. The Crop Index is down 2 points (1.3 percent) but the Livestock Index increased 3 points (2.6 percent). Producers received higher prices for milk, soybeans, grapes, and strawberries and lower prices for oranges, cattle, corn, and broccoli. In addition to prices, the overall index is also affected by the seasonal change based on a 3-year average mix of commodities producers sell.
