Stocks of all wheat in Montana on September 1, 2009 were 186.7 million bushels, up 22 percent from a year ago. All wheat stocks stored on farm amounted to 160.0 million bushels, up 24 percent from a year ago. All wheat stored off farm amounted to 26.7 million bushels, up 12 percent from a year ago. All wheat disappearance for the June-August 2009 quarter was down 1 percent from the same quarter last year to 30.7 million bushels, compared with 30.9 million bushels a year ago.
Stocks of durum wheat in all positions in Montana on September 1, 2009 were 19.2 million bushels. On-farm stocks were 18.0 million bushels and off-farm stocks were 1.2 million bushels. Publication of durum wheat stocks for Montana began this quarter. Comparisons to the previous year and quarter are not available.

Barley stocks in all positions on September 1, 2009 were 42.6 million bushels, up 11 percent from a year ago. Barley stored on farms was 34.0 million bushels, up 13 percent from last year. Off-farm storage of barley was up 2 percent from a year ago to 8.6 million bushels. The June-August 2009 indicated disappearance of 11.5 million bushels is up 44 percent from the same period a year earlier. Oat stocks in all positions were 2.0 million bushels, up 7 percent from last year. On-farm oat stocks were 1.9 million bushels, up 6 percent from a year ago. Oats stored off farm were up 30,000 bushels from last year to 60,000 bushels.

For the United States, all wheat stored in all positions on September 1, 2009 totaled 2.22 billion bushels, up 19 percent from a year ago. On-farm stocks are estimated at 840.0 million bushels, up 32 percent from last September. Off-farm stocks, at 1.38 billion bushels, are up 12 percent from a year ago. The June - August 2009 indicated disappearance is 661 million bushels, down 30 percent from the same period a year earlier.

Durum wheat stocks in all positions on September 1, 2009 totaled 103.3 million bushels, up 76 percent from a year ago. On-farm stocks, at 75.6 million bushels, are up 109 percent from September 1, 2008. Off-farm stocks totaled 27.7 million bushels, up 23 percent from a year ago. The June - August 2009 indicated disappearance of 31.9 million bushels is down 4 percent from the same period a year earlier.

Barley stocks in all positions on September 1, 2009 totaled 239.3 million bushels, up 15 percent from September 1, 2008. On-farm stocks are estimated at 154.0 million bushels, 21 percent above a year ago. Off-farm stocks, at 85.3 million bushels, are 4 percent above September 2008. The June - August 2009 indicated disappearance is 76.8 million bushels, 23 percent below the same period a year earlier.

Oats stored in all positions on September 1, 2009 totaled 128.5 million bushels, 8 percent above the stocks on September 1, 2008. Of the total stocks on hand, 54.5 million bushels are stored on farms, 3 percent higher than a year ago. Off-farm stocks totaled 74.0 million bushels, 12 percent above the previous year. Indicated disappearance during June - August 2009 totaled 48.9 million bushels, compared with 36.8 million bushels during the same period a year ago.
