Flathead County, Montana


        Flathead County was established in February
    1893 and lies in the extreme northwestern portion
    of Montana. Major portions of the Flathead
    National Forest lie within its boundaries. The
    northeastern corner of Flathead County is
    occupied by 577 majestic square miles of
    Glacier National Park. Several of Montana's
    beautiful lakes also lie within the county's
    boundaries. The northern half of Flathead
    Lake, famous for the cherry orchards that line
    its shore, is one of those lakes. Timber is
    the county's biggest natural resource.
