Sanders County, Montana


        Sanders County is located along the Montana/
    Idaho border in northwestern Montana. The
    county is mainly characterized by mountainous
    country, except for the area along the eastern
    boundary which is flat. A part of the Flathead
    Indian Reservation is located in this area.
    Portions of the Kootenai, Lolo, and Kaniksu
    National Forests make up the better part of
    Sanders County. A section of the Bitterroot
    Mountain range runs the length of the western
    boundary. Part of the Cabinet Mountains are
    contained within the boundaries in the north-
    western portion of the county. The Clark Fork
    River cuts through the center of the county.
    Found along the river in the northwestern leg
    of Sanders County are the Cabinet Gorge Dam
    and Reservoir, and the Noxon rapids, Dam and
    Reservoir.
