        Dawson County occupies land in east central
    Montana. The Yellowstone River flows through
    the southern half of the county. The land
    immediately adjacent to the river and its
    tributaries is hilly and broken, while a
    portion of the Big Sheep Mountain range is
    situated in the northwestern section.
