Lake County, Montana


        Lake County is located in the northwestern
    section of Montana. The upper portion of the
    county is occupied by beautiful Flathead Lake.
    The lake is about thirty miles long, and from
    five to ten miles wide with a rugged, wooded
    shoreline. Outside of the Great Lake System,
    Flathead Lake is one of the largest inland
    lakes in the United States and is famous for
    the abundant cherry crop grown along its shore.
    The rest of Lake County is comprised almost
    entirely of the Flathead Indian Reservation.
    The Flathead is the main valley and it lies
    between the Mission Mountains on the east and
    the Little Bitterroot Mountains in the west.
    The outlet of Flathead Lake, the Flathead
    River, traverses the center of the county and
    runs along the southwestern border of Lake and
    Sanders Counties.
