Lake County, Montana

Lake County is located in the northwestern
section of Montana. The upper portion of the
county is occupied by beautiful Flathead Lake.
The lake is about thirty miles long, and from
five to ten miles wide with a rugged, wooded
shoreline. Outside of the Great Lake System,
Flathead Lake is one of the largest inland
lakes in the United States and is famous for
the abundant cherry crop grown along its shore.
The rest of Lake County is comprised almost
entirely of the Flathead Indian Reservation.
The Flathead is the main valley and it lies
between the Mission Mountains on the east and
the Little Bitterroot Mountains in the west.
The outlet of Flathead Lake, the Flathead
River, traverses the center of the county and
runs along the southwestern border of Lake and
    Sanders Counties.
