Fergus County, Montana


        Prior to 1925, Fergus County was known as
    the largest county in the United States. Judith
    Basin and Petroleum Counties were created
    in 1920 and 1925, respectively, from portions
    of the county. The entire northern border of
    the county is formed by a portion of the
    Missouri River. The land along the river is
    known as the Missouri Breaks. The Judith
    Mountains lie in the center of the county, while
    the Big Snowy and Little Snow Mountains lie
    along the southern boundary.
