The Index of Livestock and Livestock Products was down 2 points (1%) from a month ago but was 23 points (17%) above a year ago. The Crop Index was up 2 points (2%) from last month but was 16 points (15%) below last year. U.S. INDEX OF PRICES RECEIVED The United States All Farm Products Index of Prices Received by Farmers in December was 91 based on 1990-92=100, down 2 points from November. Price decreases from November for milk, soybeans, wheat, and oranges more than offset price increases for lettuce, hogs, calves, and corn. HOGS AND PIGS Nebraska pork producers had an estimated 3.0 million hogs and pigs on hand December 1, 1999. This number was down 12% from a year earlier and was 14% below two years ago. Hogs and pigs kept for breeding were down 7% from last year and down 11% from two years ago. Inventory of all hogs and pigs in the United States was estimated at 59.4 million head on December 1, 1999. This was 4% below last year and 2% below September 1, 1999. Breeding inventory, at 6.24 million head, was down 7% from December 1, 1998 and market inventory was 4% below last year.
