Loos, State Statistician ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Issue 18/2000 Released: 9/14/2000 --------------------------------------------------------------------- SEPTEMBER CROP REPORT HIGHLIGHTS Nebraska's corn production, based on September 1 conditions, is forecast at 1.03 billion bushels, down 6% from the August 1 forecast. Production, if realized, would be the smallest since 1995. Acreage for grain harvest, at 8.05 million acres, is unchanged from last month but 3% below last year. Sorghum grain production is forecast at 32.9 million bushels, down 10% from the August 1 forecast and down 23% from last year's crop. Soybean production is forecast at 176.7 million bushels, down 10% from the August 1 forecast, and 2% below 1999. Sugar beet production, forecast at 1.18 million tons, has not changed from last month but is down 6% from last year.
