Fed cattle marketings for November totaled 365,000 head, up 4% from last year and 18% above November 1998. Placements of cattle into feedlots during November totaled 410,000 head, down 16% from last year and 9% below 1998. Other disappearance during November totaled 15,000 head compared with 10,000 head last year and 10,000 head during November 1998. 7 STATES CATTLE ON FEED UP 2% Cattle on feed December 1, 2000, in the historic 7 monthly States for feedlots with capacity of 1,000 or more head totaled 10.2 million, up 2% from 1999 and 9% above December 1, 1998. Marketings during November totaled 1.57 million, 2% above 1999 and 8% above 1998. Placements in feedlots during November totaled 1.68 million, 8% below 1999 and 3% below 1998. Other disappearance during November was 89,000 head, 44% above 1999 and 41% above 1998. U.S. CATTLE ON FEED Cattle and calves on feed for slaughter market in the United States for feedlots with capacity of 1,000 or more head totaled 11.9 million head on December 1, 2000. Marketings of fed cattle during November totaled 1.83 million head. Placements in feedlots during November totaled 2.01 million. Net placements were 1.91 million. During November, placements of cattle and calves weighing less than 600 pounds were 757,000, 600-699 pounds were 559,000, 700-799 pounds were 405,000, and 800 pounds and greater were 293,000. Other disappearance totaled 105,000 head during November. NOVEMBER MILK PRODUCTION Milk production in the 20 major States during November totaled 11.5 billion pounds, up 1.5 percent from production in these same States in November 1999. October revised production, at 11.9 billion pounds was up 2.7 percent from October 1999. Production per cow in the 20 major States averaged 1,463 pounds for November, 4 pounds above November 1999. The number of cows on farms in the 20 major States was 7.85 million head, 95,000 head more than November 1999 and 1,000 head more than October 2000. FALL POTATO PRODUCTION AND STOCKS Production of fall potatoes is a record high 471 million cwt. in the 22 fall States this year, up 9% from a year ago and 8% above 1998. December 1 stocks, in 15 storage States are also a record high 310 million cwt., up 13% from last year and 10% above 1998. Seasonal disappearance of 152 million cwt. in the 15 States is up 5% from last year. The 15 major potato States held a record high 310 million cwt. of potatoes on December 1, 2000, up 13% from last year and 10% above 1998. Storage accounted for 67% of the 2000 fall production, 2% above last year. DRY EDIBLE BEAN PRODUCTION Production of dry edible beans in Nebraska during 2000 is estimated at 3.23 million cwt., down 14% from 1999 and 12% below the production in 1998. Area planted, at 165,000 acres, was down 21% from 1999 and 15% below the acreage in 1998. Area harvested, at 156,000 acres, was down 17% from a year earlier and was 17% less than the 1998 acreage. Yield, at an average of 2,070 pounds per acre, was 70 pounds more than 1999 and 120 pounds more than 1998. This is the highest yield since 1986 when the yield averaged 2,100 pounds per acre. Production of dry edible beans in the U.S. is estimated at 26.4 million cwt. for 2000, 21% below 1999 and 13% below 1998 for comparable States. Area for harvest is estimated at 1.61 million acres, 15% below last year and down 16% from 1998 for comparable States. The average yield, at 1,641 pounds per acre, decreased 122 pounds from 1999. Production for all classes except garbanzo is below 1999. Pinto and navy, the two largest varieties, decreased 2% and 35% respectively, from 1999.
