Dear producers and other data users: Information contained herein is the result of mail, phone and personal interview surveys conducted during the past few weeks. Special recognition and appreciation are extended to all producers and agri- businesses who provided data making these reports possible. On a personal note, I am proud to have assumed the position of State Statistician for this office effective December 31, 2000. This follows five years as State Statistician of the South Dakota statistics office, tours of duty in our Washington D.C. headquarters and as Deputy State Statistician of the North Dakota office. My roots are in a central South Dakota (Highmore) grain and cattle operation. I am a graduate of South Dakota State University in Brookings. My goals as new State Statistician will be to continue providing timely, accurate and relevant Nebraska agricultural statistics; and to make them available to all who need them for their decision making. In this regard, your assistance and suggestions are respectfully requested. Thanks again to those who report and for the support of all State agriculturists. Lower seasonal marketings of cotton, tobacco, grapes and cottonseed were partially offset by higher marketings of cattle, corn and soybeans. Compared with January 2000, the All Farm Products Index was 5 points (5.5 percent) higher. Price increases from January 2000 for cattle, milk, cotton, and strawberries were partailly offset by lower prices for oranges, apples, potatoes and lettuce.
