Hamlin State Statistician NEBRASKA NOVEMBER 1 CROP REPORT Nebraska's corn production, based on conditions as of November 1, is forecast at 1.1 billion bushels, up 1 percent from last month and 9 percent above 2000. Acreage to be harvested for grain, at 7.9 million acres, is down 2 percent from last year. Average yield is forecast at 140 bushels per acre, up 2 bushels from the October forecast, 14 bushels above last year, but still 5 bushels below the record high 1998 yield. Soybean production is forecast at a record high 212 million bushels, unchanged from last month, 22 percent above last year, and 18 percent above the previous record set in 1999. Acres for harvest at 4.825 million are a record high and up 5 percent from last year. Average yield is forecast at 44 bushels per acre, unchanged from October, up 6 bushels from 2000, but 3 bushels below the record high 1994 yield. Sorghum production is forecast at 37.8 million bushels, down 5 percent from last month but up 8 percent from last year. Yield is forecast at 84 bushels per acre, down 4 bushels from last month but up 14 bushels from last year. U.S. NOVEMBER 1 CROP REPORT U.S. corn production, based on conditions as of November 1, is forecast at 9.55 billion bushels, up 1 percent from last month but down 4 percent from 2000. Yields are expected to average 138.0 bushels per acre, up 1.7 bushels from October. If realized, this would be the fourth largest production and second highest yield on record. Acreage harvested and to be harvested for grain is forecast at 69.2 million acres, unchanged from last month. Soybean production is forecast at record high 2.92 billion bushels, up 1 percent from October 1 and 6 percent above 2000. Acreage for harvest is estimated at a record 74.1 million acres, unchanged from last month but up 2 percent from 2000. Yields are expected to average 39.4 bushels per acre, up 0.2 bushel from last month and 1.3 bushels above 2000. Sorghum grain production is forecast at 537 million bushels, up slightly from October and up 14 percent from 2000. The U.S. yield forecast at 61.2 bushels per acre, is up 0.2 bushel from October and up 0.3 bushel from last year. MILK PRODUCTION Milk production in the 20 major states during October totaled 11.8 billion pounds, down 0.2 percent from October 2000. September revised production, at 11.4 billion pounds was down 0.6 percent from September 2000. The September revision represented an increase of 0.1 percent or 15 million pounds from last month's preliminary production estimate. Production per cow in the 20 major States averaged 1,526 pounds for October, 15 pounds above October 2000. The number of cows on farms in the 20 major States was 7.72 million head, 95,000 head less than October 2000, and 1,000 head less than September 2001.
