Special recognition and appreciation are extended to all producers and agribusinesses who provided data making these reports possible. State Statistician ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Nebraska Cattle on Feed Down 2 Percent Nebraska feedlots with capacities of 1,000 or more head contained 2.3 million cattle on feed on April 1, down 2 percent from last year and slightly below April 1, 2000. Placements of cattle into feedlots during March totaled 310,000, down 3 percent from 2001 and 22 percent below 2000. Fed cattle marketings for the month of March totaled 300,000, down 10 percent from last year and 23 percent below March two years ago. Other disappearance during March totaled 10,000 compared with 15,000 during March 2001and 10,000 during March 2000. U.S. Cattle on Feed Up Slightly Cattle and calves on feed for slaughter market in the United States for feedlots with capacity of 1,000 or more head totaled 11.58 million head on April 1, 2002. The inventory was up slightly from last year and 3 percent above April 1, 2000. Placements in feedlots during March totaled 1.95 million, 6 percent above 2001 but 4 percent below 2000. Marketings of fed cattle during March totaled 1.83 million, 5 percent below 2001 and 11 percent below 2000. Other disappearance totaled 69,000 during March, 30 percent below 2001 and 33 percent below 2000.
