Mark Harris State Statistician ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Nebraska Cattle on Feed Up 4 Percent Nebraska feedlots with capacities of 1,000 or more head contained 2.27 million cattle on feed on March 1, up 4 percent from last year but 1 percent below March 1, 2002. Placements of cattle into feedlots during February totaled 350,000 head, up 6 percent from 2003 but 5 percent below 2002. Fed cattle marketings for the month of February totaled 345,000 head, down 1 percent from last year and two years ago. Other disappearance during February totaled 15,000 head compared with 10,000 head during February 2003 and 2002. U.S. Cattle on Feed Up 4 Percent Cattle and calves on feed for slaughter market in the United States for feedlots with capacity of 1,000 or more head totaled 10.98 million head on March 1, 2004. The inventory was up 4 percent from the 10.55 million head on March 1, 2003 but 5 percent below March 1, 2002. Placements in feedlots during February totaled 1.61 million, 2 percent below 2003 and 11 percent below 2002. Marketings of fed cattle during February totaled 1.69 million, 2 percent below 2003 and 6 percent below 2002. Other disappearance totaled 69,000 during February, 3 percent below 2003 but 10 percent above 2002.
