These data are direct results of information provided by Nebraska producers and agribusinesses to the surveys conducted each month by this office. Thank you for your response to these surveys. Mark Harris Director ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Crop Summary Nebraska corn production based on conditions as of September 1, 2006, is forecast at 1.25 billion bushels, 3 percent above last month but 2 percent below last year. Yield is forecast at 157 bushels per acre, second highest of record, 4 bushels above last month, and 3 bushels above a year ago. Soybean production is forecast at 240 million bushels, up 11 percent from last month, 2 percent above last year, and highest on record. Yield is forecast at 50 bushels per acre, up 5 bushels per acre from August but down 0.5 bushel from 2005's record high. Sorghum production is forecast at 24.0 million bushels, up 10 percent from the August forecast and last year. Yield forecast, at 80 bushels per acre, is up 7 bushels from the previous month but down 7 bushels from last year. U.S. corn production is forecast at 11.1 billion bushels, based on September 1, 2006 conditions, up 1 percent from last month and fractionally above 2005. Yields are expected to average 154.7 bushels per acre, up 2.5 bushels from August and 6.8 bushels from last year. Soybean production is forecast at 3.09 billion bushels, up 6 percent from the August forecast and up slightly from the 2005 crop. Yields are expected to average 41.8 bushels per acre, up 2.2 bushel from August but down 1.5 bushels last year’s record high yield. Sorghum production is forecast at 305 million bushels, 3 percent above last month but down 23 percent from last year. Yield is forecast at 57.3 bushels per acre, up 1.5 bushels from August but down 11.4 bushels from last year.
