COUNTY
Released: October 2004

2003 CASH RECEIPTS SHOW A SLIGHT INCREASE
Sales of New York farm products totaled $3.12 billion for 2003, $5.4 million more than 2002. Receipts from livestock and poultry products decreased 3 percent to $1.91 billion. Crops receipts totaled $1.21 billion, up 6 percent from the 2002 level. Suffolk County was the top county in terms of the market value of agricultural products sold. Sales in the county were heavily fueled by nursery and greenhouse sales. The top county for sales of livestock products was Wyoming. Dairy products contributed the most to sales in Wyoming county. Orleans county led for vegetable sales and Wayne county was the number one county for fruit sales. New York Cash Receipts From Farm Marketings By County is a series of data we have developed in response to requests from our data users. Estimates for 2003 are preliminary.
The allocation of farm income to counties uses information collected by the New York Agricultural Statistics Service, USDA’s Economic Research Service, and the 2002 Census of Agriculture.
