E-mail: nass-ny@nass.usda.gov (518) 457-5570 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Contact: Bryan Combs Wednesday, May 27, 2009 www.nass.usda.gov/ny NEW YORK DAIRY SALES EXAMINED BY TYPE OF ORGANIZATION The 2007 Census of Agriculture found the market value of the milk and other dairy products sold in 2007 totaled $2.28 billion for the state of New York, according to Steve Ropel, Director of USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service, New York Office. Of the total market value, $1.02 billion, or 45 percent was received by family or individual farm operations. Farms organized under a partnership received $859 million, or 38 percent, of the total market value. Farms organized as a corporation accounted for 17 percent, or $381 million, of the total market value. Other types of organizations accounted for less than 1 percent of the market value at 17.6 million dollars. The Census, which is conducted every five years, provides facts and figures on virtually every aspect of U.S. agriculture, including number and types of farm operations, the economic aspects of farm production and the demographics of U.S. farm operators.
