In 2007, there were 2,009 farms that reported growing nursery, greenhouse, floriculture, or sod crops in New York, down 21 percent from the 2002 level of 2,552 farms. The value of sales for 2007 totaled 389 million dollars, an increase of 13 percent from the 2002 total of 344 million dollars. Average sales per farm jumped from 171 thousand dollars in 2002 to 194 thousand dollars in 2007, an increase of 13 percent. The Census, which is conducted every five years, provides facts and figures on virtually every aspect of U.S. agriculture, including number and types of farm operations, the economic aspects of farm production and the demographics of U.S. farm operators.
