E-mail: nass-ny@nass.usda.gov (518) 457-5570 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Contact: Brent Farley Monday, December 07, 2009 www.nass.usda.gov/ny CENSUS OF HORTICULTURE SURVEY MAILED The National Agricultural Statistics Service will begin mailing questionnaires for this year=s Census of Horticulture Specialties survey on December 7, according to Stephen Ropel, Director of the New York Field Office of USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS). Producers are asked to return the surveys by mid-January. The Census of Horticulture will be mailed to all commercial producers of floriculture, nursery, and other special crops in New York. This survey provides the only detailed information about the production and sales of these items and the important contribution they make to the agricultural economy of New York State. To maintain accurate information for the industry, the continued cooperation of commercial producers is necessary. A commercial producer is defined as one who earns $10,000 or more in gross annual sales. Producers not returning a completed questionnaire will be contacted by telephone or in person to complete the survey. Census participants are guaranteed by law (Title 7, U.S. Code) that their individual information will be kept confidential. NASS uses the information only for statistical purposes and publishes data only in tabulated totals. Any producer with questions about the survey may call Brent Farley or Bill Blackson at 1-800-821- 1276. # 12-7-09
