E-mail: nass-ny@nass.usda.gov (518) 457-5570 FLORICULTURE April 2011 VALUE OF NEW YORK FLORICULTURE PRODUCTION INCREASES SLIGHTLY New York floriculture production ranked seventh in the nation for total commercial sales in 2010. The overall value of commercial sales for operations with more than $10,000 in sales increased slightly to $183 million. Bedding and garden plants continued to be the highest component of the total value of sales at $103 million. Potted flowering plants were second with a value of sales of $40.2 million, down 5 percent from previous year. Propagative materials ranked third at $16.5 million, a decrease of 2 percent from 2009. During 2010, there were 657 growers. The total covered area for the floriculture crop production was 22.5 million square feet. The total open ground area was 903 acres. However, these data are not comparable to previous years due to the combined data collection efforts of the Census of Horticulture and the Annual Floriculture Survey. The data in 2009 include area used for production of nursery crops as well as floriculture crops. Additional details are available in the "Floriculture Crops 2010 Summary", released April 21, 2011.
