Across the state, onion acreage decreased from 9,138 acres in 2008 to 8,825 acres in 2010. Total potato acreage is 1,283 in 2010. Acreage not planted at the time of the survey (August 2-4) was 7,545. Turfgrass, the second major acreage in Orange County, decreased 32 percent to 1,833 acres. The acres not planted at the time of the survey (August 2-4) increased 6 percent. Oswego County onion acreage showed a 23 percent increase from 2008 to 2,291 acres. Acres that were not planted decreased to 283 acres. In Orleans and Genesee Counties, onion acreage decreased 12 percent from 2008 and field corn acreage jumped 18 percent. Carrot acreage equaled 16 acres. Acreage not planted by the survey completion date was 551 acres, 7 percent less than in 2008. Madison and Oneida County mucklands onion acreage decreased from 247 acres in 2008 to 222 acres in 2010.
